Open Question: Can I use spackling on a space where wood joints meet?

The previous owner built some wooden built in's in the living room himself. He didn't put much detailing into them and they look homemade so I put some trim on them. I'm not sure if I can describe this well enough to give you a picture, but I found a picture of someone else's built-ins to describe: http://www.chrisjordanfurniture.co.uk/graphics/large/cjf_built_in_cabinet_large.jpg On the bottom of these built-ins, there is cabinetry and the top has shelves. On the top of the cabinetry, there is a flat surface that is brown. Mine are sort of built like this except on the top of the cabinets, the top is at a 90 degree angle with the front of them. I added a lip on the edge and a bit of trim underneath. The lip is made from a square piece of wood. It is flush with the surface, but I'd like to put some thing on the joint where the square piece of wood meets the top of the cabinets so it will look like one continuous piece of wood. I've become very good at using spackle and wallboard joint compound, sanding them down and getting a really smooth finish. But I wasn't sure if the wood on the built-ins would expand and contract and the spackle wouldn't expand and contract with it. Is there a product I should use to give it that smooth surface look? Thanks!

Open Question: How to build a plywood wall?

What im wanting to do is build a plywood wall (like 15-20') in my backyard so i can spray paint it and reuse it. Like spray paint it, buff it, spray paint it, buff it....etc. Now i have a couple questions so if u only know the answer for one question lemme know witch one your answering. 1. what type of plywood should i use?? Like is there a certain type of plywood that can take the beatings of the elements? Or should i buy something to cover it, like a tarp? 2. Is there pieces of plywood bigger than 4 x 8'?? 3. I've heard that "Home Depot" and "Lowe's" sell's crappy plywood but would this be okay to use just to paint on?? I know i have to buff it before spray painting it, I've used bucket paint before but only on cement walls in ditches and stuff, so.. 4. What type of bucket paint would be best on wood?? Any design suggestions would be cool. It would also be sweet if i could take it apart or collapse it with ease, maybe using hinges or something to fold it, but if not, oh well. :) Thanks in advance for your suggestions. sorry should have added this but i dont plan to actually put it in the ground i was thinking about leaning it against something like a tree or build something that i can lean it on. would i still need a permit for that?? Thanks for your answers!!! and how would you recommend i join them??
