Open Question: Closing vents in unused rooms without doors?

I know it's a good practice to close vents and doors in unused rooms to save energy, but what about rooms without doors? The air that would go to those rooms is pushed out of the vents in the used rooms to heat them more efficiently, but how do the rooms without doors effect the heating and energy usage? We have gas heating and so far the furnace seems to run less between shutoffs, and it might just be my imagination, but it seems to have more cycles than before. But this may be because I'm keeping a closer eye on it.

Open Question: Patching small holes in the wall?

I recently moved to a new apartment, and the previous tenant left lots of small holes in the wall- from nails (hanging things up)- my landlord is not very prompt, so I thought I could just fix some of them up myself. What would be the easiest/most effective way to patch up little holes in a wall? The walls are painted white... there is also a small patch of pain missing from one part of the wall- yep, my landlord just didn't give enough of a sh*t to take care of this before I moved in...

Open Question: How do I make a safe home made ant trap?

I understand that when making an ant trap there are two basic "poisons" you can use: 1) The safer alternative Yeast 2) Boric Acid (Borax) I live in a home with three small children all under six and two large dogs, I can not risk any of the members of my family being poisened- by something more dangerous then yeast. Is the yeast version of the home made ant trip as effective? When it comes to the philosophy of wanting the ants to carry the poison back to there nest so the whole colony ingests' it, I am having a hard time finding anything that compares the two online! Thank You All!

Open Question: How to paint a table from light wood to dark wood color?

I have coffee and dinning tables I want to repaint. They are both in natural light wood. I want them to be dark wood color. They are varnished with a glossy finish. I want to paint them that way, that the wood would look like natural dark wood, not like a heavy painted wall. I need a list of things needed to do this job. Thanks a lot!

Open Question: how much would you pay for such alterations?

I have a wide leg pair of jeans, that i unpicked and was going to make into a skirt myself. but as it turns out, i want to make a striaght maxi skirt, as opposed to an A-line skirt, so i feel it'll be a little difficult to complete the task myself. how much should i expect to pay for the tailor to pick up where i left off, considering i have done all the "dirty work", in unpicking the necessary parts of the jeans..? all she needs to do is measure and sew.
