Open Question: How do i cut off and replace a banister and spindles? I need to get large mirror upstairs but it wont fit.?

I have a narrow twisty staircase with low ceilings, and the only way that my 7x5 foot mirror up it is to saw off the banister and spindles (about a 1m section). Is this easy to do? I have two young children so its extremely important that when the banisters are replaced they are secure. I would like to put the same ones back if possible, rather than buying new ones, as they are victorian and suit my house.

Open Question: Why is resin gone from water softener?

Water softener has not be softening water lately. I fill up the salt tank but it uses it up pretty fast. However water test shows hard water off the chart. I disconnected the water softener and opened up the tank. There was very little amount of resign in the tank. Maybe like 2 inches. I couldn't find anything broke on the plastic dip tube. Does the resin disintegrate after a while with really really hard water? Or is something broke?

Open Question: Which way do I turn the valves to turn off supply of water?

I need to turn off the supply of water to my shower. I found the back access panel, opened it up and am looking at the valves to turn off the supply of water. They are very hard to turn either way, but I dont know which way to turn them, to turn off the supply of water.

Open Question: how to connect 12/3 wire to 12/2 wire?

Hi, I want to install electric base board heater. My problem is that I only have 12/3 wire outlet. I want to hook up this 12/3 wire to 12/2 wire to install my new baseboard heater. Please let me know what should I do. Thanks all Thanks to all answers. I want to install a "240 volt electric hydronic baseboard heater". Thank you for answering. 1. What is the voltage of the baseboard heater (it will say 120v or 240v on a label somewhere) --> 240v 2. Are you plugging it in with a cord or permanently installing it connected to a wall box? --> permanently installing it connected to a wall box 3. Where is this 12/3 wire and this 12/2 wire you are talking about? Which one is connected to the electrical panel and breaker? --> 12/3 wire I will install a 240v electric hydronical baseboard heater.
