Open Question: how much impact energy do i need on an sds drill to channel out walls in masonry for wiring jobs?

looking for a drill that can make the work easier for me, seen the impact energy range from 1.4J to 14J, but I am wondering what do real tradesmen use? and which I should go for. I realise the higher energy will make work easier but I don't want to spend £500+ on a drill if something like 1.8J of impact energy would do in reality or perhaps just a good old fashioned masonry wall chisel? thanks for any information guys :D

Open Question: how can i drain water out of a 2m hole in my front garden?

ive recently buried a large gas tank in my front garden and the hole is now constantly full of water.the hole is 2m deep,3m long and 2m wide, the hole has been filled with pea shingle and rubble and the surrounding soil is thick clay. Now the hole is like a swamp, do I need to dig a deeper hole within the original hole to penetrate the sub-soil and get to a layer underneath to allow the water to drain? If so, how do I find out how deep the next layer will be?
