Open Question: I want to be a house flipper... But how? and more... Open Question: I want to be a house flipper... But how?My dream in life is to be able to restore or 'flip' historic houses and re-sell them, doing as much of the work I possibly can, myself. I have spoken to a few different people, and they suggest to A) Get a Real Estate license, B) Get a Business License and C) Get a contractors license. For me, I'm not in it for the money... I want to do this because I really really love old houses and it breaks my heart to see one in shambles. I have wanted to do this for a while, but I really don't know where to start. I want to know why I should get a business license, and even a real estate license. Not that I don't think I should--But just to help me understand a bit better how they can help me. Also, I have been asking around and reading, and it seems to get a contractor's license you have to already be into construction. This is something I want to do also. I want to learn EVERYTHING I can about how to fix up an old house. From codes, to repairing a bad foundation, electrical, roofing, and everything in between! I come from a long line of electricians, and handymen, but most of these people are either dead, across the country, or very very busy. Is there a school or course I can take where I can get hands on experience and learn everything? Also, would this school/course help me get a contractors license? This may seem unimportant, but I also read that when you get a contractors license it's usually only for the state you are applying in. The thing is, my ultimate dream is to restore historic homes all over the Southern US. I know I should just cross this bridge when I get to it... But do you have to apply for a new License every time? I probably haven't even asked enough questions about this. But any advice or feedback is very appreciated. Thank you for taking the time to read this! I want to do this the right way. I want to be prepared, organized, and very knowledgeable about everything I want to do before I start. Also, please don't discourage me because I'm a girl... This is another reason I want to flip houses is also because I can work alone (How I work my best, anyway) and don't have to worry about being turned down by other employers because I AM a girl! :) Thanks... -VM- Open Question: How do I install insulation in my attic?I need to add insulation to my attic. Is it as easy as going to Home Depot, buying the pink insulation, and placing it down on the attic floors? Also, I know I need to lay some on the floor but do I staple/nail it to the attic ceilings too? Thanks for the help! I've never had to do this before. Open Question: I installed 3 seperate shower heads and all of em shut off when all way on?They work fine then you go all the way hot and the pressure goes to a dribble. 2 are in one shower and other is seperate upstairs. There the type that cant adjust pressure just on and move up and down for hot and cold? Tried replacing cartridge and watet heatrr and supply on all the way? Open Question: smoking a cigarette whilst decorating. will it blow me up? quick question. 10pts quickly?im painting a wall, if i open the window very wide and stand with the cigarette out of the window will it be okay not not flammable/blow me up? Open Question: How do you get a raw plug out of a tiled wall?Hi I'm a bit of a dab hand at getting raw plugs out of normal walls, but in my bathroom there are several raw plugs in the ceramic tiled wall which I want rid of. Bit scared of damaging the tiles though... Any ideas? Open Question: How do I wire a thermostat to the central heating system in my house?Open Question: Where can a buy a "designer" shower safety handrail/grab bar for my elderly parents?Need to buy a safety rail for my parents shower but they rejected the one I bought from Homebase - nice plain cylindrical chrome grab rail - because it "looks like something from a mental health institution". Unfortunately they all do. Anyone know where I can pick one up online that doesn't look like what it is? Thanks in advance! More Recent Articles
