Open Question: installing new baseboards but we've run in to trouble?we ripped off these cheap old baseboards and added taller, thicker ones. but the problem is that it doesn't sit flush against the wall, it kind of bows out a little. so we were hammering in nails and its pushing some of the nails out...what is going on and how do i fix it? FYI: first time homeowners and first time do it yourselfers :) Open Question: How big a header for pocket door in a load bearing wall?I have a single story ranch home with a less than standard steepness roof (60's house). Roof was put on later (apparently it was a flat roof at one time - not sure this matters). I want to put a 32" pocket door in one room. I am not 100% sure its load bearing, but it does go perpendicular to the joists. Will 2 - 2'x8' be enough as a header? Cheers! Open Question: Clogged kitchen drain pipe?My kitchen drain is clogged. I used Drano, and it just made it worse. Also, can't wash dishes with dishwasher, as it floods on floor second half of washing cycle, I assumed from the clogged drain??? Anyone know what could cause the clog. Water goes down very slowly in basin. My plummer is checking it out in two days as I gave up. Open Question: How easy is it to pour/use floor leveling compound? Are results good?I just moved into an older house (1925) that has been kept up very well, but I am looking to possibly finishing off the basement. The floor isn't terrible, but it is concrete and there are some spots where it is a little warn away where theres some small holes/divets. Although not too deep I feel as though whatever flooring I would use (carpet, laminate) I would feel it be uneven in those particular spots. I was watching a home remodeling television show and they used this floor leveling compound (after cleaning the floor and priming it). As with anything you watch on television it looked very easy and it left a very smooth & level looking floor. I was wondering if anyone has experience using any type of floor leveling compound, what I should know, and the results people might have got from using it. Also, if anyone knows roughly how much it would cost me to do my entire basement (30'x30') Open Question: how to match angels on a laminate counter top?Open Question: How to fix a non-flushing push button toilet with overflow problem? We have a toilet with a top-button flush. It has an overflow problem (no idea how to fix it, the water level is too high) but every time I lift the lid to look at it when I put it back on it won't flush and somebody else has to fix it. Why would this happen? How do I fix it myself? Open Question: why is my castin' craft release spray making my molds look cracked, and chippy?I read the directions and did everything i had to but they come out really messy.... you know with cracks and chippiness!!! HELP Open Question: Is it ok to use the toilet if it's clogged?I had a toilet overflow problem, and I decided that I need a better plunger and a toilet auger. My roommates and I don't have a car, and it's late where I am. Would it be ok to use the toilet, but not flush it, until I can get these things tomorrow? Or should we walk to the nearest store instead? Open Question: how do I remove rust from the sides of my metal building?I bought a steel building (shop) a few years back and I am just getting around to putting it up.I have had it stored kinda semi weather proof but blowing rain must have got between the panels that make up the exterior front back and sides. When seperating this stack of metal I discoverd alot of the panels had rust on them.It is not all the way through and it looks to be surface rust. What is the best way to remove the rust.I am planning on painting it anyway.
