Open Question: How do you drill a hole through the side of a bolt?

I own a drill press to drill the hole, but how do you hold the bolt in place to do this. The hole needed is about 1/16" and needs to be drilled on the shaft and not the head. The bolt is 3/8"x4" and made of zinc I believe. It is not hardened or forged. I wouldn't mind buying a bolt like this if I could find one. I looked a McMasters web site and did not find what I need. Any help would be appreciated! Thank you for your help. I wanted to mention that the bolt is being used to pull a wire tight. I run the wire through the hole in the bolt, tie a knot, then tighten the bolt to pull the wire giving it the tension I need. Maybe I need something different all together. What can I use to grab and put tension to wire? Thanks for all the help so far. I really appreciate everyones imput. Really Thank YOu!

Open Question: What is the best procedure to remove leached minerals from surface of newly laid brick?

What is the best procedure to remove leached minerals from surface of newly laid brick? I had to soak these very porous Mexican fired adobe brick before I could mortar them in place, or else dry, they would immediately suck all the moisture out of the mortar. Here is a picture of two brick columns I've finished. The one in the background was the first one done and is showing the most leaching of minerals/ salts. http://i369.photobucket.com/albums/oo140/iseebeauty/mineralsinwaterleachedtobricksurfac.jpg I called the building supply place I bought the brick from and they said apply an 8:1, water: muratic acid, wash with a bristle brush, and wait for bubbles to stop. My questions are, 1) How long to I have to wait to apply the muratic acid wash? Until the bricks dry? 2) I have not filled the core with concrete yet. Should I wash the brick before or after I fill the core with concrete? 3) After the bubbles stop, do I then rinse the muratic acid compound off with a water hose? This seems to make sense, because I will be applying sealer to the brick after they dry and cure, and maybe traces of the acid remain if I don't rinse? Thank you for all your help!

Open Question: wiring remote ceiling fan w/ two switches?

i am installing a hunter ceiling fan remote (the fan has pull chains). i have two switches on the wall one for the lights and one for the fan. so coming from the ceiling is 4 wires black, red, white, copper. the fan has a black, blue, green, white. the receiver has black, white, black, red, white. I understand connect black to black white to white and all that and i get that the receiver only needs to be operated by one switch (i picked the black) but when i do this i get nothing everything just stays on and i can not control it from the remote. i tried changing switches by using the red wire and i get the same thing. I tried playing with the wires and the only thing that came close to working was when i put the black(hot) and the red(lights) from the receiver and the blue(light) from the fan to the red from the ceiling then attached the blacks(fan) together. I was able to control the fan speed but not the lights. I tried contacting hunter tech support but they weren't to helpful at all. any help would be great. hopefully i explained this well enough.
