Open Question: Built a large deck. now its time to paint it, what to use?We used Treated wood for the floor of it. and regular for the railings,etc. I want to paint it, but hubby wants to stain it. I say paint would be cheaper,easier and look better. and for whatever your answer can you recomment some brands. It didn't come with instructions.?Open Question: Is $7200 to much to pay to get a pipe in my basement fixed?Our basement drain overflows when we run water in our house. We had it snaked by a bigger name plumbing company who said it was a cracked / broken pipe. Upon further inspection it was found to be the trap located in the front of our house near the wall. He said they would only need to dig in the house and worse case go under the wall to "grab" the pipe from outside. Quoted price is $7200, is that high? We know a retired plumber who used to work on this type of thing who will let me help and only charges $50 an hour, does this sound like a good idea for a job like this or should I simply use the bigger name contractor to avoid bigger issues? Thanks Open Question: Should I use varnish or shalac my mantel?I just stained a piece of wood (that I'm using as a mantel) using a cherry stain, now I'm wondering if I should use shalac or varnish to finish it off?
