Open Question: B&Q refusing to exchange a faulty item, whos wrong & whos right?

i bought this power performance paint stripper (electronic heat air gun) on saturday just gone & im pretty sure that power performance is excuslive to B&Q anyway, however after using this tool for an hour or so yesterday for the 1st time i started to strip down a door frame, i then left it for 15mins or so whilst i had a cuppa i then went back to work & carry on doing some paint stripping it started to lose heat power i mean you could put your hand over the nozzle it was that low so i thought maybe its over heated yet cannot understand why wasnt used for all that long. So anyway i left it agen for 20 mins or so when it worked fine melting all the paint off then it started losing heat power again so i got fed up & thought sod it ill take it back 2moro. However not so easy! told the girl on returns desk about this problem produced her the receipt & she says nothing she can do until its been tested so another guy comes down switches it on holds for about 30 seconds & says it works fine & refuses to exchange it & says its a health & safety thing. So 2nite i tried to carry on doing this job & 1 minute its blowing out powerful heat the next warmish air & my house is just a mess surely this is not meant to happen? As i know my old black & decker 1 didnt do this & it lasted for ages. Can you help what do you think? many thanks to all answerers (if any)

Open Question: Problems with putting up a new chandelier- wire confusion.?

I took down the old light fitting, which has left me with 3 thick wires coming out of the ceiling, each of which contain neutral, earth and live. Obviously, there are only three wire ports in the chandelier. What do i do with the other two wires? Or maybe i've got it completely wrong, by cutting of a circuit board type thing that these wires all attached too (I thought it was part of the old light fitting, but maybe it was meant to stay there). I live in an old victorian house (in england).

Open Question: Radiator not working in all rooms.?

We noticed that not all the rooms (steam) radiators are working. Most of the rooms are working, but one or two rooms aren't working at all. Each radiator has a circular knob that can be turned and there's a metal can-like fixture on the top of the radiator with a hole which I believe relieves pressure. I've seen some of these metal can fixtures painted over...is this a no no? I don't have a lot of DIY experience, but I'm willing to learn...baby steps. Any help would be great.

Open Question: Need help my gas consumption does not seem right?

Electricity is most easily measured in watt hours. The generator has a 5000 watt output but the only gas consumption spec is at 50% load. So it will run for one hour at 50% load and will make 2500 watts. That's 2500 watt hours. The generator burns 1/2 gallon an hour at 50% load. So it will make 2500 watts an hour for half a gallon of gas or 5000 watts an hour per gallon. The water heater takes 1200 watts per hour and will run for 1 hour a day - so it takes 1200 watt hours per day. 1200/5000 = 0.24 gallons of gas per hour * 1 hour = 0.24 gallons. The gas stove takes 320 watts per hour and will run for 3 hours a day - so it takes 320 watt hours per day. 320/5000 = 0.064 gallons of gas per hour * 3 hours = 0.192 gallons. The fridge in the house (food) takes 400 watts per hour and will run for 24 hours a day - so it takes 400 watt hours per day. 400/5000 = 0.08 gallons of gas per hour * 24 hours = 1.92 gallons. The freezer (small capacity) takes 300 watts per hour and will run for 9 hours a day - so it takes 300 watt hours per day. 300/5000 = 0.06 gallons of gas per hour * 24 hours = 1.44 gallons. The High efficiency gas furnace takes 600 watts per hour and will run for 4 hours a day - so it takes 600 watt hours per day. 600/5000 = 0.12 gallons of gas per hour * 24 hours = 2.88 gallons. The TV takes 110 watts per hour and will run for 4 hours a day - so it takes 110 watt hours per day. 110/5000 = 0.022 gallons of gas per hour * 4 hours = 0.088 gallons. The 8 high efficiency lights take 120 watts per hour and will run for 6 hours a day - so it takes 120 watt hours per day. 120/5000 = 0.024 gallons of gas per hour * 6 hours = 0.144 gallons. House SpecsGallons per 24 hours water heater0.24 gallons of gas per hour * 1 hours = 0.24 gallons gas stove0.064 gallons of gas per hour * 3 hours = 0.192 gallons fridge in the house (food)0.08 gallons of gas per hour * 24 hours = 1.92 gallons freezer (small capacity)0.06 gallons of gas per hour * 9 hours = 0.54 gallons High efficiency gas furnace0.12 gallons of gas per hour * 4 hours = 0.48 gallons TV0.022 gallons of gas per hour * 4 hours = 0.088 gallons 8 high efficiency lights0.024 gallons of gas per hour * 4 hours = 0.096 gallons Total gallons per 24 hours = 3.556 The fuel tank has a 5 gallon capacity. And one tank of gas will last for 10 hours. At 50 %load and the price of gas is 70 cents/liter. Therefore over a 24 hour time: You will have to fill the 5 gallon tank 1 time that will come to a total of 3.556 gallons that will be needed to run the generator. 3.556 gallons of gas in liters is 13.46 Liters x gas price 13.46 x .70 = $9.42 Therefore the total cost to run all the appliances that I would need to survive without electricity for 24 hours is $9.42

Open Question: Can i plant a cannabis bonsai?

I came across a couple seeds the other day and my friend said they looked perfect to grow. i don't want a full sized plant because i don't smoke weed. but i am VERY interested in bonsai and since cannabis grows fast i thought i could practice on it. i have done some research and found that cannabis doesn't flower unless it gets 12 full hours of darkness a day. so basically my question is this... if i keep the plant near a window during the day and under lights at night will it stay in a vegetative growth for a few years or will it end up flowering anyways? also if i keep it in a really tiny pot will it stay really small and grow tiny 5 fingered leaves all over? i heard that if you keep a cannabis plant alive long enough it grows bark and a wood like stem. does this mean that it has potential to be a bonsai? yes i know that cannabis is illegal i just want to grow a tiny plant for looks because the leaves itself are beautiful and the plant gets gorgeous after its full grown even without buds. plus if i could keep the same cannabis plant for my whole life and passed down to my children i would be sooo happy. i will end up getting a normal bonsai tree like a maple or something but for now with all ive got i want to try this. will it work??

Open Question: How can I tell how difficult a sewing pattern is?

I'm learning how to sew in a costume class, and for one of our projects we have to use a pattern. The instructor told us to pick a pattern that was fairly easy, but none of the patterns I've seen have a difficulty level listed on them. I'm looking at using this Simplicity Pattern 2837 (see link). Can anyone tell me if this is going to be EXTREMELY difficult? ....or do any of you wonderful sewers out there have any recommended patterns? (Keep in mind, the need to be in plus size...) As a sewer I know all the basic stitches, and how to serge, and how to sew on trim, etc...I've never made a buttonhole or put in a zipper, but it's a learning process.. All of your help will be welcomed! https://www.simplicity.com/p-1756-costumes.aspx

Open Question: How to use the Marantec garage door opener?

I have had my Marantec 4500 opener for months now and all is well. I am trying to figure out how to change the code in the 'dial pad' but also trying to remember why the installer took both remote controls and hooked them together when we first installed. I think that was to synchronize the remove control, right? The manual is not too user friendly.

Open Question: How do I take down non-bearing cement walls. 2 of the walls go up to a 10 fot Ceiling.?

There are some kennel wals that are 6 feet tall I thought I could take a sledge hammer to, but I am trying to be smart about how to remove 2 10foot tall walls and some 2 inch curbs where mobile kennel use to sit on. I want to make a large room and lay carpet and add some private office walls. The roof is a span and the owner has moved wall in the past and none of the walls I want to remove are not load bearing. I will just have to have drywall patched where the cement walls were.

I have a Brother Lock 929D. I want to embroider some characters onto a t-shirt for my little girl. Is there any way I can do this with this machine? My regular sewing machine is broken right now.
