Open Question: How much would it cost to add a very basic bathroom...Just Approx.?We have a detached rec-room in the backyard. We would like to add a very basic bathroom (Toilet-sink-shower). Approx how much would it cost to run the water and sewer and enclose a couple walls to do this? And what kind of a permit would we need? (We're in Phoenix AZ) Open Question: no hot water from saunier duval therma condens boiler?the hot water is ok when the central heating is going but only warm when on hot water alone Open Question: How can I make an "eco friendly" interior to my home?Open Question: wall paint colors.. need advice and/or opinions?I have my main bedroom set with a medium blue .. spare bedroom a nice light purple.. bathroom a neutral color.. but my main problem would be my living room/ dining room.. The dining room and living room are pretty much 1 room but id like to split them by different colors.. i have a dark brown couch and the furniture is a dark dark brown or called black-brown from IKEA.. Since i need to pick a color that will go well with this .. I am unsure what i should then make the dining room color and the kitchen since the kitchen is almost connected with the dining room.. I just need opinions.. Ive thought about initially maybe a burgandy red but i figured its to dark already.. i fi do a light tan or creamy vanilla.. i didnt know if that be good since the CARPETS ARE ALREADY A VANILLA COLOR.. and that is throughout the house.. so im kinda stuck.. id appreciate any suggestions.. thanks Open Question: Can someone explain this logically? Central heating enquiry.?A few years ago, central heating systems had one thermostat in the house, which was usually on the hall wall, and this shut off or started up the system depending on the hall temperature. It wasn't brilliant because it meant that the entire house was at the mercy of the temperature in one room, so you either fried or froze depending which room you were in. Then along came thermostatic radiator valves, a marvellous invention because it meant you could control each room independently, you simply set the hall thermostat on high so the system ran most of the time and adjusted each room as you wanted it. It wasn't that much more expensive because the boiler's own thermostat shut the gas off when the circulating water reached the right temperature and individual radiators shut themselves down. The hall thermostat was relegated to the function of an on/off switch basically, and most people just turned them to maximum if they had individual thermostats. I have just had a new boiler fitted, and guess what, I am back to square one. The old combi boiler didn't have a wall thermostat, but British Gas insisted the new one had to, regulations, so I'm back to a wall mounted thermostat which unless I simply set it on high will over-ride the far more sensible radiator thermostats I had fitted. This seems to me to be a backward step, thought up by some fat arsed beaurocrat riding a desk in the name of "save the planet". I was also informed that if they had fitted a whole system they would have had to refuse to fit thermostatic valves if they could interfere with the wall thermostat. This is ridiculous. Who's house is it? When is this interference going to stop? Now, we have just Open Question: Gas stove not the ignitor?I replaced the ignitor on a gas stove based on what I found on the net. It is still not allowing the oven burner to activate. I do hear and smell gas after a short delay but again no ignition. At a loss. Don't think it's the safety valve because it does release gas but it just won't spark. Any clues? Open Question: whirlpool or GE electric water heater?I am getting ready to purchase a new electric 40 gallon water heater and dont know which one to choose. Home Depot carries GE and Lowes carries Whirlpool. These are the only two home improvement stores in my area so which one is better? Open Question: Suggestions for planter liners?I am going to be building my own patio planters from old wooden palates (since my landlord won't let me plant in the ground). I will be planting vegetables, herbs, etc. I need to know what would be the best "liner" for the inside of the boxes so that dirt doesn't go everywhere (and make my landlord have a cow!) but will allow for proper drainage and healthy plants. Thanks. Open Question: Installing a 220 volt outlet, no ground? There is an old building that I need to add a 50 amp 220 outlet to. This building gets its electricity from another building, from a 60 amp breaker in the other buildings main panel. The old building has a new Square D breaker box in it, and it already has a 50 amp 2 pole breaker in there. But there is no wire going from the breaker, it's just sitting in the fuse box. I can't see any sort of ground or green wire in the fuse box, all the outlets in the old building just have 2 prong receptacles. Can I put the ground wire of the 220 outlet to the neutral bar, or should I try to make some sort of ground? More Recent Articles
