Open Question: What are the different methods are there for preserving timber?

Is there different methods for end grain, sawn timber, and gates and fence pannels. Do the methods differ greatly for chemical use in the UK and USA

Open Question: Will Home Depot take it back?

I bought molding...too much of it. The thing is I cut it to the size I needed before I left the store. I have a receipt showing I bought 24 feet of molding and I will be returning the exact 24 feet. I just don't know because I cut it.

Open Question: how much would it cost to refinish solid wood floors in a 12 by 13 room?

Ok I live with my parents, In my room is wonderful wood floors ( I dis like carpet) But the floor is not as wonderful as it could, see the room before i got it was my father office/ my brother room.... My brother as a teen would mix chemicals up and there are weird stains in the wood. To top that off my father would smoke cig. and ash on the floor and then he would roll over the ashes and i would scurbed this floor for hours and nothing gets the ashes out . The floor is not sealed at all and when it was my and my brothers room we spilt green slime ( nick sold it back in the 90's, it is like impossible to clean up) So the floor has seen alot.... I am thinking of trying to sand it by hand ( I have a smallish sander) but what would be a good budget to set to refinish a floor like that or should i just look into buying a floating floor ..... I really like the wood but like i said its not sealed and has been through alot.... please help? the floor is stained in many places, there is like tatoo design my brother did with god knows what.... the closet is where the ash stain is and the green goo stain is in the middle.... there are a bunch smaller black spot and this floor probly has never been redone seeing the house is a low priced home and only had 3 families in it before my family bought it .... i was gonna do it with a hand sander ( small crafts man) if i could ... I do not really work much any more and stuff.... so i do not care if it takes a while to sand it a little i just never did it before and i have no clue what i would doing .... but anything i do is better then what is there... my father is planing in replacing the floor if it stays the way it is when they finally move out ( in like 10 years more then likly lol)
